DOLPHINS BLAST CCNY TO STAY PERFECT IN CUNYAC

Box Score The College of Staten Island women's basketball team wasted no time getting back in the win column, dominating from start to finish in an 84-46 win over visiting City College of New York at the Sports & Recreation Center this evening.  The win improved the Dolphins to 7-2 overall and a perfect 3-0 in CUNYAC play, while the Beavers lost for the second straight game, dropping to 2-6, 1-3, respectively.

CSI left little to doubt, opening up a quick, 10-0, lead over the first 2:43, powered by a pair of Alyssa Carlsen lay-ins and a three-pointer by Megan Myhre.  After a three-point Beavers spurt, CSI then posted a 12-0 run, as Melanie Johnson opened her scoring day with a personal 9-point tear.  After the opening seven minutes, the Dolphins had themselves a 22-3 lead and from there, CSI was able to coast.

A Giovanna Blanco lay-up for CCNY cut CSI's 25-point lead to 31-11 with 7:12 to go in the opening stanza, but CSI was once again able to extend, finishing the frame on a 19-9 run to take a 50-20 lead into intermission.  The run was spearheaded by three straight Myhre three's, part of five on the night for the sophomore.

CSI would lead by as many as 45 points in the second half before ultimately settling for the 38-point victory, 84-46.  For CSI, it was their 23rd-straight win over the Beavers dating back to 1997.  The Dolphins were led by Johnson's 21 points on 9-12 shooting, adding eight rebounds.  Myhre finished with 15 points, while Lisa Galasso scored six points to go with a tie for a team-high eight rebounds and seven assists.  Ranked sixth nationally in assists per game, averaging 19.7 per contest, CSI finished with 26 assists total tonight, making them 5-0 in games where they score at least 17 assists in a game this season.  CCNY's Latoya Lee and Blanco each finalized with 11 points apiece.

CSI is back in action on Sunday, travelling to West Point, NY, to take on NCAA Division I Army at 1pm.
