DOLPHINS BASEBALL STAYS HOT WITH DOUBLEHEADER VICTORIES OVER MT. ST. VINCENT

Chris Ramanauskas' three-RBI double in the sixth was the deciding factor in CSI's come-from-behind victory in the opener
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The College of Staten Island men's baseball team used a feverish comeback in the opener, and then opened things up with a big inning in the second game, to take a doubleheader sweep over visiting College of Mount Saint Vincent at the CSI Baseball Complex this evening in non-conference action. CSI won the opener, 7-5, and then used a 10-run fourth inning to take a 15-5 win in the nightcap. The Dolphins, winners of four straight and eight of the last 10, improved to 9-7 overall, while MSV dropped to 0-15.

In a see-saw opener, the Dolphins rallied late to score the win. Before that, CSI opened up a 2-0 lead after one inning, wish Chris Ramanauskas and Robert Bernardo tallying RBI-singles in the frame. After MSV got one back in the second off of CSI starter Joseph Fiori, the Dolphins added another marker in their half of the second, this time on a James Lewis sac fly that scored Joseph Cespuglia.

From there, MSV wrestled control back in their favor. A Chris Sideli RBI single plated Jason Rivera to make it 3-2, and one inning later, MSV scored a pair to take over the lead. Josh Sharpe did the damage with a two-RBI single to right center. CSI reliever Kieran Monaghan took the hill, and had an inning of shutout ball before surrendering a MSV insurance run in the sixth. Down to six outs, CSI trailed 5-3. From there, it was rally time for CSI.

Cespuglia began the frame with a walk , and after being replaced on the base paths by Christian Osmundson, Joseph Palmeri also walked. Dan Lynch then sacrificed, advancing the runners, which brought up Bryan Moreno, who earned another walk, and chased MSV starter Tyler Krolokowski. Anthony Granitto came in, and appeared to play the hero when he got Lewis to fan out. But Granitto then gave way to southpaw James Puma, who would pitch to lefty Ramanauskas. It was Ramanauskas who would win the battle, smashing a bases-clearing three-RBI double to right-center giving CSI back the lead. One at-bat later Will DiFede added an insurance run, plating Ramanauskas with a single.

In the top of the seventh, CSI's Richard Anderson closed the game by getting MSV down in order, the last two via the strikeout. Monaghan earned the win by tossing two innings of relief. CSI out-hit MSV by the same 7-5 count in the opener. Ramanauskas was the undoubted hero, going 3-for-4 at the dish with four RBI and a pair of runs scored.

In the second game, again CSI was forced to come back, only this time they fell behind in a 4-0 hole after the game's first half inning. The Dolphins of MSV scored all of their runs with two out, including a Steven Maio two-RBI double down the left field line. CSI got single runs back in the first and second off of MSV starter Kevin Coogan, but it wasn't till the fourth inning where CSI erupted for 10 runs on just three hits and eight walks issued in the inning. After walking the bases loaded, Coogan walked CSI's David Carles to score a run, and he was then lifted for Dan DiLascio. Moreno then walked in another run, and Palmeri followed with a two-RBI double opening the floodgates. After Ramanauskas was intentionally walked, Will DiFede stroked a two-RBI single with the bases loaded. CSI then added more runs via a MSV error, a sac fly by John Baggs, and an RBI-single by Carles.

CSI would end up scoring three more runs in the fifth for insurance, more than enough of a cushion for CSI reliever Anthony Storz who pitched well in relief, going 3.1 innings allowing a single hit with three strikeouts, getting the win. CSI out-hit MSV 9-7, with DiFede earning the only multi-hit game, going 2-4 with a pair of RBI and runs scored.

"We did a nice job of battling back in the opener," said CSI skipper Michael Mauro. "We showed a lot of resiliency by sticking together and getting the big hit when it counted. Even in the second game, we stayed patient and didn't panic after falling behind early. We are starting to show a lot of trust in each other out there."

Winners of four straight, CSI will next take on NYU-Polytechnic on Thursday evening at 7:30pm for a single non-conference test at the CSI Baseball Complex.
