Box Score The College of Staten Island men's soccer team showed signs of improvement, but fell hard to New Jersey City University as they lost 1-8 in the final game of the 2
nd Annual CSI Fall Classic at the CSI Soccer Complex, Saturday.
The Dolphins were put on the defensive the second the whistle blew, and by the 12-minute mark the Gothic Knights were on the board as NJCU leading scorer Aboubacar Diawara. The sophomore converted on a pass from teammate Manny Martis and into the box slipping a shot past keeper
Antonio Lynch, who made his CSI debut.
The Gothic Knights went on to dominate the first half of play as they tallied three additional goals, while the Dolphins only managed to tally three shots in the first 45 minutes of play.
While the second period opened up with two quick goals by NJCU, giving the Gothic Knights a 6-1 lead, the Dolphins refused to give up. At the 52:50 mark, CSI's Marcin Kim scored a goal to put the Dolphins on the board. The freshman scrambled into the box and converted on a pass from Thomas Vasquez. This marked Kim's first career goal.
From there on out, the Dolphins began to play with a new sense of vigor and pride. However, despite their best efforts in the second half, NJCU went on to score two more goals on the night.
On the night, NJCU out-shot CSI 17-10 (12-5 on goal). Diawara led NJCU as he finished the night with two goals with three shots on goal. Kim scored the only goal for CSI, while Alfonso Castenada led the team with three shots and two shots on goal.
The Dolphins now prepare to take on SUNY-Maritime, Fri., Sept. 6, at 5 pm at the CSI Soccer Complex.
