For the second time to open the 2013 season, the College of Staten Island women's tennis squad fell behind early in doubles, then rallied to win four out of five singles flights to take a nail-biting, 5-4, win, this time toppling Farmingdale State College in their home opener earlier today.  CSI improved to 2-0 overall, while FSC fell to 1-1.

In an almost carbon copy of their win against powerful William Paterson University on Saturday, CSI fell in both first and third doubles, but the team of Sabrina Bragerton-Nasert and Mediha Mulla got the Dolphins on the board with an 8-0 win over FSC's Michelle Fredericks and Tatiana Rosamilia.

Play then moved to singles, and CSI was in a hole, when Jessica Sickles scored a 6-0, 6-1, win over CSI's Sabrina Bragerton-Nasert in the top singles flight, and later FSC scored again with a 6-0, 6-3, win by Priscilla Signore over Stoyko.  Needing to sweep the rest, the Dolphins rose to the occasion.  Sophomore Sophia Varriano picked up her first singles win of the year with a 6-3, 6-0, win over Fredericks, and shortly after, Baak followed suit with a 6-3, 6-3, winning effort over Rosamilia.

Further down in the order, Mediha Mulla, playing in the No. 5 spot lived up to her Rookie of the Year form, toppling FSC's Denise Liguori by a 6-4, 6-4, margin.  In the final spot, CSI got the clincher via Jacqueline Jamaleddine's 6-3, 6-2, win over Diana Selover.

"This makes two nice wins for us to open the season," said CSI skipper Paul Ricciardi.  "We have another tough one tomorrow but we are definitely getting better and feeling confident right now."

?CSI will turn around and play powerful Ramapo College tomorrow afternoon at 4pm at the CSI Tennis Center, weather permitting.
