Box Score The College of Staten Island men's soccer team fell hard in non-conference play on Saturday evening at Rutgers-Newark, dropping a 7-0 decision. The Scarlet Raiders improved to 5-1 overall, while the Dolphins dipped to 1-5.
From the opening minute, it was all Scarlet Raiders as the home team cut through the CSI defense to the tune of three goals in the opening eight minutes of play. Patrick Dawidczyk got things started just 1:13 in via a free kick that landed in the high-right corner passed CSI keeper
John Gioeli. From there, Raphael Arujo scored a natural first-half hat-trick. At 3:15 he signaled on a breakaway and at 7:36 he struck again via a Robi Rosario feed. On RU-Newark's third goal, CSI's Gioeli came up injured, and so CSI went with
Antonio Lynch in net for the rest of the way.
Against the new keeper, Arujo scored again at 12:46, before Daniel Naranjo tallied at 22:38 to make it 5-0 at the half. The Raiders added two goals within a span of 3:30 in the second half, the first by Nick Bucciero and the last by Zakaria Sodki to complete the scoring.
RU-Newark finished the game with a 28-8 shot advantage (15-4 on goal). Matt Broomall and Andrew Gavrun combined for the four-save shutout, while Lynch finished with six saves for CSI.
The Dolphins are back in action on Monday afternoon, when they host Berkeley College of New Jersey in a 4:30pm match at the CSI Soccer Complex.
