DOLPHINS BLANK LEHMAN FOR FIRST CUNYAC WIN

Nicole Molinell got the scoring started fo CSI
Box Score The College of Staten Island women's soccer team scored their opening win in conference play this season, extending their season-opening unbeaten streak to seven games, with a 4-0 win over Lehman College this evening at South Field in the Bronx, NY.  The Dolphins lifted their mark to 6-0-1 overall on the season, while Lehman lost for the third straight time, falling to 4-4.

Despite posting 26 first half shots, it took the Dolphins over 17 minutes to find paydirt in the game.  Sophomore Deanna Kvetkoff threaded a lead pass on the far sideline to fellow sophomore Nicole Molinell who was able to sidestep a defender, and then from the side of the goal box, bent a looping shot that hugged the far left corner of the goal passed Lehman keeper Melanie Varillas to give CSI a 1-0 edge.

The Lightning couldn't get much going offensively, and with possession being dominated by the Dolphins, CSI struck again at 25:45, when Melissa Gelardi's corner kick found the head of Samantha Wysokowski, who scored her team-leading 10th goal to make it 2-0.  Then, with just 1:36 left in the fame, CSI got on the board again.  This time, a Gelardi shot was punched away by Varillas, but CSI's Demi-Jean Martorano was there to stuff in the rebound to stake CSI to a 3-0 lead at halftime.

CSI went on to out-shoot Lehman, 16-2, in the second half, and added another goal late off of the foot of Natalie Tombasco, who hammered in a bouncing shot on a rebound off of her own original shot.  The goal came against Lehman keeper Marleny Hernandez, who replaced Varillas with 15 minutes left after injury.

For the game, CSI led the shot count, 42-2 (15-2 on goal), and posted six corner kicks to LC's zero.  For CSI, it was their fifth shutout of the season.

?The Dolphins will be back in action on Saturday, when they host York College for another CUNYAC test at 12 Noon.
