Lynch Saves Six, But Dolphins Fall to Devils

Box Score MADISON, NJ – The College of Staten Island men's soccer team traveled to Madison, N.J., to take on FDU-Florham where it put up a tough fight, but fell 0-4, Saturday.

CSI (1-6-1) opened the first half playing a great defensive game, but FDU-Florham managed to break away and opened the scoring at the 15-minute mark. Igor Petrovic played a pass that found Ryan Hurdes, who managed to edge the ball into the net to give the Devils a 1-0 edge.

The Dolphins had several opportunities to level the score, including a shot taken by Brandon Cadmen at the 26-minute mark that headed just wide of the goal.

The Devils stretched the lead to two 11 minutes into the second half. Tommy Asselta had the goal of his career when he took a shot from 35-yards out on a direct kick that sailed up and over goalkeeper Antonio Lynch and into the back of the net. It was that goal however that fueled the Dolphins to play with a new intensity.

Minutes later, in an attempt to get CSI on the board Thomas Vazquez shot a header towards the goal, but the ball went wide.

Nicholas Bacarella had several opportunities to score, but unfortunately was unable to capitalize on them. At the 73 minute mark, he took a shot that headed just a bit wide of the goal as did a shot at minute 77 and 83. Teammate Peter Hanna had a chance to put the Dolphins on the board, but Hanna's shot was a bit too high and missed the goal.

The last two goals for the Devils came at the 80 and 81-minute mark. The first was on a shot from 25-yards out off the foot of Luke Devine, while the latter came when Hurdes connected on a pass from Petrovic and George Batista to shoot one back into the goal.

Despite the end score, the Dolphins put up an amazing defensive battle and took some great shots against the Devils. Lynch had an incredible night at goal, tallying six saves.

CSI will return to action Monday, Sept. 23, when they face Old Westbury at the CSI Soccer Complex. Kick-off is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
