STATEN ISLAND, NY - The College of Staten Island women's tennis team rolled past Hunter College 6-1 Saturday afternoon in a CUNYAC match played at the College of Staten Island tennis courts. CSI took two of three doubles matches and claimed victories in four of six singles matches to dominate the Hawks. The win improved the Dolphins to 5-0 overall and 2-0 in league play.

CSI opened the competition by taking the team doubles point taking two of the three matches. Madiha Mulla and Sabrina Bragerton-Nasert started the ball rolling with their commanding 8-4 win in the No.2 spot. Jean Baak and Nozima Toshpulatova followed shortly afterward with an 8-6 victory on court three to hand the team point to the Dolphins. Ilona Soyko and Sophia Varriano fought hard on court one, but were unable to complete the doubles sweep falling 5-8.

Heading into singles play, the Dolphins and Hunter were closely matched. Varriano started things off for CSI and fell hard to Hunter's Shena Joseph, 1-6, 2-6. Things began to look bleak for the Dolphins when Soyko fell to Stephanie Ahwireng, 4-6, 1-6, putting the Hawks up 3-2.

Down one, CSI tied things up when Bragerton-Nasert defeated Angelina Usherenko 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles. The Dolphin advantage went up to 4-3 following Baak's 6-1, 6-3 victory over Hunter's Janani Bavanandan.

The match clinching victory came when Mulla defeated the Hawks' Sara Beck 6-2, 6-0 to make the team score 5-3 in favor of CSI. The Dolphins then wrapped up the competition with Toshpulatova's 6-0, 6-0 win over Natassia Chittumuri.  

CSI will face York College at 4 p.m. Tuesday afternoon at the CSI tennis courts.
