Box Score New York – The College of Staten Island men's soccer team opened up conference play showing they were a definite force to be reckoned with, but despite their best defensive efforts they fell to Baruch College, 1-3, Thursday.
Both teams played a great defensive game as neither team was able to put any points on the board for most of the first half. However at the 29 minute mark, Baruch's Victor Tlepshev managed to dribble up the middle of the pitch and nailed a hard shot straight into the back of the net to put the Bearcats 1-0.
The defensive battle continued on as goalkeeper
Antonio Lynch tallied four saves on the evening, keeping the ball out of the net up until Baruch found the goal at the 73
rd minute when Tlepshev connected on a cross off the foot of Charles McConnell. Shortly after, the Bearcats scored their final goal of the evening when Shaun Edalati passed through the middle to Kevin Romero, who chipped it past Lynch, giving Baruch a 3-0 lead.
Finally, in the last five minutes of play, it was time for the Dolphins to get on the board. Junior
Thomas Vazquez nailed a penalty kick past Baruch goalie Guy Sharav, putting the final score at 3-1.
Both team registered 20 shots on the night, with seven of CSI's being on goal compared to the eight on goal for Baruch.
