Box Score The College of Staten Island men's soccer team broke their lengthy seven game winless streak, hammering Medgar Evers College on Saturday morning at Aviator Field by an 8-0 score. The Dolphins improved to 2-8-1 overall and 1-1 in CUNYAC play with the win, while MEC fell to 0-4, 0-2, respectively.
CSI scored just 10 minutes into the game on the first of back-to-back goals by
Thomas Vazquez, who scattered six shots total in the game. CSI's
Alfonso Castaneda assisted on Vazquez's second goal, and did the same for
Daniel Tsygankov, who pasted a shot past MEC keeper Christopher Welsh, who despite the final score, made 16 saves for the home Cougars.
CSI was up, 3-0, at halftime, and then added five more tallies on 12 total shots in the second half. Four different goal scorers took part in the barrage, with
Peter Hanna,
Marcin Klim, and Castaneda, each scoring and Dino Cosevic adding two markers.
For the game, CSI out-shot MEC, 30-4 (24-1 on goal).
John Gioeli earned the shutout for the Dolphins, going a complete 90 minutes making a lone save in the win.
CSI is back in action on Monday afternoon, when they host NYU-Poly at 4:30 pm at the CSI Soccer Complex.
