Men's Soccer Battles NYU But Falls 1-2

Box Score BRONX, N.Y. – For the first time this season the College of Staten Island men's soccer team took to the road and headed north to face New York University at Gaelic Park and despite their best efforts, the Dolphins fell to the Violets 0-1, Saturday.

The two teams were evenly matched and it proved to be a defensive battle between the squads, but around the 19-minute mark NYU's Chris Ramirez managed to knock in a shot to give NYU the 1-0 lead. However, their lead was short lived as just over a minute later CSI's Horatio Reid tied things up as he fired a ball straight past the goal keeper and into the back of the net.

During the second half of play, NYU changed up their plan of attack as they increased their offensive pressure. During the first half, the Violets took 9 shots compared to the 13 in the second half. It seemed the increase in offense paid off as NYU scored the final and winning-goal of the day on a Shawn McNitt-Gray goal on a pass from Nimo Bergstroem.

After tonight's game, CSI pushes its overall record to 1-3 on the year. The men return to action on Tues., Sept. 10 against Berkeley College (NY) at 4 p.m. at the CSI Soccer Complex.
