The College of Staten Island split meets tonight as the men won their meet 131-96 and the women lost 138-85. With the win tonight the men improve to 7-2 overall and extend their winning streak to three in a row. The women on the other hand drop to 6-5 overall and brings to an end their two game winning streak.
The men got off to a great start tonight with the 400 yard Medley Relay as they came in first place with a time of 3:45.00 beating Adelphi's swimmers by an amazing 45 seconds. They kept that going in the next event when
Timur Rakhimov came from behind to win the 1000 yard Freestyle by posting a time of 11:06.33 and beating his opponent by five tenths of a second.
Danila Novikov had a great night as he place first in all three of his events, which consisted of the 400 yard Medley Relay, the 400 yard Medley with a time of 4:20.56, and in the 200 yard Backstroke with a time of 2:05.76. Help also came from Tim Sweeney who placed in first place in two of his three events while placing second in the other.
Yury Zimarev also added two first place finishes.
The women had a tough meet tonight as they only recorded one first place finish in the swimming events. The Dolphins excelled in the diving events by placing first in both events.
April Bartlett placed first in the 1Mtr Diving and 3Mtr diving events with scores of 135.45 in the 1Mtr Dive and 152.50 in the 3Mtr dive.
Priscila Alvarez came in second place in the 50 yard Freestyle with a time of 29.86 and second in the 400 yard Freestyle Relay with a time of 4:36.23.
John Pignatelli scored a 130.45 in the 1Mtr and a 141.35 in the 3Mtr.
The women's season is now over and will prepare themselves for the CUNYAC championships while the men have two meets remaining and will look to continue their strong season. The men's next match is at St. Francis in Brooklyn at 5pm on Thursday, January 16th.
