HUGE SECOND HALF PROPELS CSI TO VICTORY OVER LEHMAN, 95-62

Box Score The College of Staten Island men's basketball squad used an overpowering second half, out-scoring their visitors by 32 points, to take a lop-sided, 95-62, win over Lehman College as part of CUNYAC play tonight at the CSI Sports & Recreation Center.  The Dolphins won for the eighth-straight outing, improving to 9-2 overall and a perfect 4-0 in CUNYAC play, while the Lightning dropped to 8-5, 3-2, respectively.

If the first 20 minutes were any indication, the game was going to be a toss-up, as both teams exchanged first half leads over half a dozen times in see-saw fashion.  A 10-5 spurt got the Lightning started, aided by two straight Jerrome Jones three-pointers that got Lehman started, part of 17 first-half points for the Lightning guard.  The Dolphins erased that deficit thanks to a 11-4 run, sparked by a Kevin King three and a Javon Cox put-back to grab a 16-14 lead, their first since the opening bucket.  CSI led by six before a Jones running lay-up gave the visitors the lead again, 28-26 with 6:31 to go in the frame, but again CSI responded, this time to the tune of a 12-2 run to grab their biggest lead, 38-30, with 3:32 to go in the stanza.  The run featured 9-straight points from senior Jonathan Chadwick-Myers and was ended when fellow senior Bloochy Magloire canned a three.

Lehman would again claw back, responding with a 9-0 run that included five-straight Kelvin Gil points, giving Lehman back the lead before CSI's Matt Van Manen scored on a lay-up to give CSI a very modest, 40-39, lead at intermission.

That all changed in the second frame.

After a pair of Stanley Stephens freebies gave Lehman back the lead, 43-41 just 1:17 into the frame, the Dolphins took over.  Junior Javon Cox made three consecutive baskets to stake CSI to a 48-43 lead, and after a Jonathan Greenfield lay-up and Gil free-throw for Lehman cut into the lead, the Dolphins went on a numbing 25-0 run over the next 5:18, grabbing a commanding 73-46 run by the time it was over.  CSI went on the defensive, forcing eight turnovers in that span while holding Lehman to just three shots.  Meanwhile, four Magloire jumpers including a three did the damage, as did another three-point play from Frankie Schettino and a three-point bomb for Chadwick-Myers that ended the run.

To make matters worse or the visitors, CSI went on another 14-0 run after Lehman cut the lead to 75-52, this time with most of CSI's reserves in the frame earning quality minutes.  The Lightning was able to cut the once 37-point lead down to 31 on two occasions, before CSI settled with the 95-62 win.  For the Dolphins it was their second-highest point output of the season, and their highest point total against Lehman in program history since they began meeting in 1978.

The Dolphins finished with four players in double digits, led by Cox's 20 points on 9-16 shooting, adding seven rebounds.  Chadwick-Myers posted 16 points to go with a pair of assists while Magloire posted 15 points and four rebounds.  King posted an efficient 13 points in 19 minutes.  Lehman got 20 points from Jones to go with 10 rebounds, while Greenfield finalized with 10 markers.  CSI held a modest 37-36 edge on the glass but forced 22 Lehman turnovers to CSI's 12.

The Dolphins are next in action on Friday, when they travel to Medgar Evers College to take on the Cougars in an 8pm tip-off.
