GAMEDAY: SOFTBALL HOSTS MOLLOY IN SECOND MEETING OF 2023 SEASON

4/11/2023 6:00:00 AM

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Softball Team is back on their home turf this afternoon as they host the Molloy University Lions in a pivotal conference doubleheader.  The Dolphins enter today's games 11-23 on the season and are 3-7 against the East Coast Conference.  Molloy comes into the CSI Softball Complex 21-12 overall and 8-1 in conference play.  Today will be the second time the two teams have met this season with Molloy taking the win in each of the first two games earlier this season.

The Dolphins played for the fourth time in five days this past Friday when they hosted the Goldey-Beacom College Lighting.  After CSI took a commanding lead early in game one, the Lightning rallied from behind to win, 10-6.  In game two, the Dolphins took the win behind a complete game effort in the circle from Anissa Acosta.  The Lions were last in action on Saturday against D'Youville and split their doubleheader with the Saints.

Mariah Carcano and Alyssa Acosta remain the leaders in hitting for the Dolphins as they have for much of the season.  Aileen Balderas, Amelia Funston and Anissa Acosta are also hovering around the .300 mark in batting and Acosta remains among the conference leaders in RBI.  In the circle, the Dolphins have turned to four different starting pitchers during the past week.  Alexis Miramontes, Alexandra Frenza, Madison Edwards and Anissa Acosta all got a start for the Dolphins during a stretch of four doubleheaders in five days last week.  Miramontes had one of her best starts of the season against the Lions last when she faced them earlier this season allowing just one run in 5.1 innings.  After Miramontes took a 1-0 loss in that game, the CSI pitching staff allowed 15 runs in another loss in game two.

The Lions are led in batting by a pair of .333 hitters in Karsyn Eaton and Emily McGurk.  Steph Conrade is also hitting above the .300 mark for a Molloy team that comes in hitting .282 as a unit.  Conrade has been very active on the bases as well stealing 23 bases on 26 tries.  Among several power threats in the Molloy lineup is Alex Burns who has already hit eight home runs on the season.  Brianna Macias and Amanda King have been very effective in the circle for Molloy this year each posting an ERA below 3.20.  Both are also quickly approaching 100 innings on the season, have thrown ten complete games, and have at least eight wins.
