2/16/2025 11:00:00 PM

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Track & Field Team competed at the 2025 ECC Indoor Championship today and earned their highest placements ever in the event for both the men and the women.  Competing against ten other teams, the CSI women placed sixth in the meet.  Competing against eight other teams, the CSI men placed fourth.

The strong performance for the Dolphins in today's meet was driven by an extensive list of personal records, six of which were school records.  The first of those six records belong to Adonijah Washington in the Long Jump with a distance of 5.38m. This was one of two records set by the freshman in the meet as she also took the program record in the 60-Meter Hurdles with a time of 9.41 during prelims.  The last of three records set by the CSI women belonged to Skylar Pointer in the Shot Put.  Her distance of 11.59 shattered her own program record set three years ago and earned her third in the meet.

The first of the three program records set by the CSI men came from Vincent Ohenhen in the 60-Meter.  His second-place time of 6.90s surpassed his own record by nearly one-tenth of a second and he came just .01s short of the top spot in the event.  Sam Whelan then set another program record in the Long Jump with a distance of 6.28, good for a top-ten spot in the event.  Lastly, the CSI men set a new record during a first-place finish in the 4x400 Relay.  Taking first by three-tenths of a second, Steven Elcock, Ibrahima Diallo, Josmy Cerda, and Karran Riley posted a time of 3:22.30.

In addition to the records, Elcock took first in the 400-Meter for the men followed by Karran Riley in second.  Four Dolphins also placed in the top-ten in the Men's 200-Meter, and Ibrahima Diallo also earned another gold medal for CSI in the 500-Meter.  In the 800-Meter both Wayne Stephenson and Josmy Cerda placed fourth and fifth respectively as as well.  For the women, Elizabeth Nicotra placed sixth in the 1000 in addition to third-places finishes by Washington in both her record-setting Long Jump and the Triple Jump.  Lastly, Ava Thompson earned the bronze in the Weight Throw with a distance of 14.51m.

All of the new program records were also personal bests for the Dolphins who earned a spot in the record books.  However, many more Dolphins contributed to the team's performance with additional personal records.  For the women, the Dolphins set the following personal records:

Precious Dillon: 200-Meter (27.00s)
Camryn Koch: Indoor 400-Meter (1:09.98) & 200-Meter (30.62s)
Alexandrea Jackson: 500-Meter (1:29.79)
Mary-Lee Mitchell: Weight Throw (8.36m)

The CSI men added the following PR's:

Jeremiah Downer: 60-Meter (7.36s) & 200-Meter (23.46s)
Nick Runfola: 200-Meter (22.90s)
Joseph Ortiz: 500-Meter (1:19.63) & 200-Meter (26.10s)

Christopher O'Brien: Indoor 400-Meter (52.90s) & 60-Hurldes (10.32s)
Chris Vazquez: 200-Meter (24.86)

The Dolphins once again took a major step forward this year culminating with their performance at today's meet.  The team has re-written the program record books and slowly climbed the regional rankings.  Several athletes were also among the best in the ECC and have contributed to a overwhelmingly positive outlook for the future of the program.
