The College of Staten Island's Men's Soccer team fell to the CCNY Beavers 3-1 on Wednesday afternoon at the CSI Soccer Complex. The loss put an end to the Dolphins CUNYAC season while the Beavers clinched playoff berth. CSI dropped to a 3-15 overall record and finished 2-7 in CUNY. The Beavers extended their record to 3-10-2 and 3-4-1 in the CUNYAC.
Before kick off, a pre-game ceremony was held for the Dolphins lone senior Dimitri Sidiropoulos. He was honored with a picture frame and jersey from CSI Athletics Director Paul Bobb and Sports Information Director Dave Pizzuto.
The Beavers took charge right away, as Mohamed Abdalhaleem scored the first goal off a corner kick just 1:45 into regulation. At the 30:34 mark, CCNY's Dennis Githui sent a lead pass to Peter Viamontie to put the score at 2-0 at the half. Despite the score, CSI had 11 shots in the first half while CCNY had ten shots.
Seventeen minutes into the second half, Githui had an unassisted goal from the right side to put the score at 3-0. With 7 minutes left in regulation, the Dolphins Ahmed Elghareib scored the team's lone goal from the top of the box on a throw in from CCNY's goalkeeper but it was not enough.
Despite the loss, CSI goalkeeper Andrew Brown had a fine performance in goal with six saves. CCNY's goalie Tayfun Kucuk took the win with nine saves.
A few yellowcards were given during the game. CSI's Louis Brown and CCNY's Abdalhaleem and Kucuk all received cautions.
The Dolphins will play in their last contest of the season on Monday, October 26th in a non-conference game against Bard College at 7:00 pm in Annadale-on-Hudson, New York.
