All-Time Series: First Meeting
Players to Watch (CSI): CSI is being steadied by the tremendous play of
Emily Koerick, who is doing it both in the circle and at the plate. Koerick boasts a 2-2 mark in the circle with a 1.40 ERA this season, fanning 43 batters in just 30 innings of work, and opponents are batting just .190 against her. She also leads the team with an even .400 batting average, also leading the team in hits with 10 and runs scored with eight. Also hitting well is
Samantha MacPherson, who boasts a healthy .346 average, leading the squad with four doubles and five RBI.
Jaclyn Kateridge is just shy of the .300 mark as she is batting .292. Both
Elizabeth Moore and
Victoria Whalen lead CSI with four walks apiece, and Whalen has also been hit by four pitches, raising her on-base percentage to .423, good for second on the team.
Players to Watch (UB): The Purple Knights have been steadied with terrific pitching through six games, led by Kaite Burawski, who is 3-0 with an impeccable 0.32 ERA, allowing just one earned run in 22 innings, fanning 38 batters. Right behind her is Samantha Schiebe, who is 2-0 with a 2.44 ERA, and Miranda Hillman is right there with them, at 1-0 and a 2.56 ERA. Elyssa Marmolejo is the Knights' leader at the dish, posting a .364 average, tied for the team-lead with three RBI, while collecting a team-high two stolen bags. Meg McFarland is next in line batting .360, leading the team with nine total hits and five runs plated. Three of her hits have gone for extra bases, including two triples. Sam Ferreri is also one to watch, as she bats .318 with seven total hits. Kaira Ramon leads the team with three bases on balls.
News & Notes: Today is the first meeting between the two schools in both of their histories. Bridgeport is 6-0 this season against teams that CSI has already played and lost to twice (D'Youville and Molloy). Bridgeport wins with defense and fantastic pitching, as they boast an ECC-best 1.54 ERA and an admirable .953 fielding percentage. Four of their six victories have been by a single run to D'Youville and they beat Molloy by three runs and four runs, in their doubleheader, respectively. CSI as a team has a 4.31 ERA and have been struggling a bit at the plate, batting just .239 as a team. CSI has, however, produced 24 walks as a team, lifting their on-base mark to .335, better than Bridgeport's .293.
