SPARKILL, NY – The College of Staten Island softball team will look to keep its season alive Friday afternoon in an elimination game of the East Coast Conference (ECC) Tournament when the Dolphins face No. 3 seed D'Youville University at 12:30 PM.
If the Dolphins take the victory over the Saints, then they are scheduled to play the fifth game of the tournament against the winner of St. Thomas Aquinas and Mercy at 3:00 PM.
Regular Season Series Recap
The Saints swept the regular season series against the Dolphins, 4-0, earning 4-0 and 1-0 victories in Staten Island before adding 12-4 and 11-0 wins in Buffalo later in the month. CSI's strongest performance against D'Youville came in the 1-0 home loss, where the Dolphins recorded six hits but were unable to capitalize offensively. The Dolphins' highest scoring output against the Saints came in game one of the Buffalo doubleheader, where CSI scored four runs.
Team Comparison
D'Youville enters the postseason as the No. 3 seed after finishing the regular season with a 20-18 overall record and a 10-10 mark in conference play. The Saints are also the defending ECC champions after defeating St. Thomas Aquinas College in the 2025 championship round.
The Dolphins earned the No. 4 seed in the tournament, and both teams enter Friday's matchup facing elimination following losses in Thursday's contests.
Individual Leaders
Madilyn Paul and Abbie Morris continue to lead the Dolphins offensively heading into their second tournament game. Morris raised her batting average to .390 after a two-hit performance against St. Thomas Aquinas on Thursday, while Paul is batting .363 and leads the team with a .513 slugging percentage.
Milene Mendoza improved her average to .305 following Thursday's action, while Aliveah Warner continues to pace the Dolphins with 12 doubles and 18 RBI.
In the circle, Marena Grenier delivered another strong outing on Thursday, allowing just one run against the Spartans while striking out two. She enters Friday with a 3.78 ERA and a career-high 78 strikeouts this season. Kennedie Ruth follows with a 6.62 ERA and 42 strikeouts.
D'Youville features the ECC Pitcher of the Year, who owns a 2.04 ERA with 15 wins and 110 strikeouts. Offensively, the Saints are led by a hitter batting .441 with 23 RBI and 24 doubles, while another top contributor enters the matchup with a .366 batting average.
