Players to Watch (CSI):Â The Dolphins only have two games under their belts, but made it clear that sophomore transfer
Emily Koerick is one to watch. Koerick made two appearances in the circle, including a tough loss in her only start when she yielded only a single earned run on four hits against the Saints on Monday. Koerick also leads the team with three hits in five official at-bats, boasting an on-base percentage of .714 after being hit by a pair of pitches as well. Look for returner
Claudia Porcaro to add some pop at the top of the order. Porcaro has two hits this season, both doubles and has an RBI to her credit.Â
Jaclyn Kateridge hopes to stay sharp at the plate, and
Gorret Komuhendo leads the team in walks and has CSI's only stolen base so far this season.
Players to Watch (QC): Look for Marisa Sagona and Danielle D'Angelo to be the leaders at the plate this season after good starts to 2020 before the COVID suspension of the season. Sagona was leading the team with 9 hits, including a double and a triple, while D'Angelo scattered four RBI in 29 at-bats. Queens also brings back Emma Wimmer in the circle, who despite an 0-4 record boasted a 4.15 ERA, complete with nine strikeouts in over 29 innings pitched.
News & Notes: Today is obviously the first meeting between the two sides all-time within NCAA Division II. The two teams played a pair of games during the 1996 and 1997 seasons, with Queens winning both of those contests. Both of those contests nearly 24 years ago took place on Staten Island, so today will mark the first-ever meeting between the two sides taking place in Flushing. This is the season-opener for Queens, who have seen the first four doubleheaders on their schedule postponed as they reopened alongside CSI just a few weeks ago with preseason practices. CSI opened up at home against D'Youville on Monday dropping a pair 4-1, and 13-3. CSI had the entirety of their 2020 campaign wiped out while Queens was 0-10 in 2020 at the time of stoppage, with all 10 of those games taking place in Florida as part of their spring training swing. Queens' last winning season came in 2015, when they finished 35-16. They will look to recapture that magic this season as they boast a roster of 12 players, six of them seniors and juniors that bring a heavy amount of experience with them.
