GAMEDAY: SOFTBALL RETURNS TO ACTION WITH NON-CONFERENCE DOUBLEHEADER AGAINST HOLY FAMILY

3/16/2023 8:00:00 AM

Bensalem, PA - Following a postponement of Tuesday's doubleheader against Adelphi, The College of Staten Island Softball Team is back in action for the first time since their eight-game Florida trip as they take on Holy Family University this afternoon.  The Dolphins enter today's games with a 3-7 overall record while the Tigers come in 1-13 on the season.  These two teams have met three times with all three games coming last season.  All of the previous meetings were decided by just one run, and Holy Family took the win in two of those three games.

The Dolphins were last in action on Friday when they wrapped up their Florida trip with a pair of losses to St. Michael's College and the University of Minnesota Crookston.  The Tigers were also last in action at The Spring Games on Friday when they dropped a pair of games to Seton Hall University of Pennsylvania and the University of Missouri - St. Louis.

Mariah Carcano is off to a solid start for the Dolphins this season coming in with an even .400 batting average.  She has not only given the Dolphins consistency at the top of the lineup but she has also played a strong center field through the team's first ten games.  Not far behind her in batting is Alyssa Acosta who comes in hitting .360.  Fellow freshman Aileen Balderas is also hitting above the .300 mark with a .333 average entering today's doubleheader.  In the circle, Alexis Miramontes and Alexandra Frenza have given the Dolphins quality innings early in the season, but they have lacked the run support to translate their pitching efforts into wins.

Two Tigers that the CSI pitching staff will be looking to keep quiet are Kylee Jones and Madison Grubb.  Both come in hitting well above the .300 mark with on-base percentages around .400 through twelve games each.  Like the Dolphins, the Tigers have a team ERA between 5.00 and 6.00 led by a pair of starters who have accounted for a majority of their innings-pitched.  Sam Ciasullo leads the team in ERA followed closely by Makenna Patterson.  Both faced the Dolphins last season and allowed at least five runs in their start.  However, the Tigers took the win in both of those games.
