Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Softball Team hosts their home opener today as they will take on Felician University in a doubleheader this morning at 11 AM. The original start time for game one was 1 PM, but first pitch of the opening game was moved up to try and avoid cold temperatures early in the evening. The Dolphins enter today's games 4-10 on the season and Felician comes in with a record of 8-9. The two teams have faced one another just twice in two games played last season. The Dolphins lost a 19-run marathon 10-9 in the first game last year and won the second matchup 9-2.
The Dolphins are playing their second doubleheader in the last two days as they dropped a pair of games against West Chester University of Pennsylvania yesterday. The Dolphins led 6-1 in the first of the two games, but the Golden Rams scored six unanswered runs to earn the victory. In game two, the Dolphins struck first with a first-inning home run, but they didn't score again in a 14-1 loss. The Golden Falcons were last in action at The Spring Games on Thursday when they dropped two games on the final day of their Florida trip.
Anissa Acosta had a big day for the Dolphins yesterday as she hit a home run in each of the two games against WCU. She now leads the Dolphins in RBI's with 14 and joins
Aileen Balderas with 2 home runs.
Mariah Carcano continues to lead the Dolphins in batting followed by Balderas and
Alyssa Acosta. Each is hitting at least .300 on the season with an on-base percentage of .364 or above. It was a tough day for the Dolphins in the circle yesterday as CSI starting pitching combined to allow 16 runs. However, the duo of
Alexandra Frenza and
Alexis Miramontes had previously pitched well early in the season and will be looking for a bounce back effort today.
Two Golden Falcons come into today's games hitting above the .400 mark including the teams leading hitter Vienna Chierchia and Kathryn Steinmetz. Felician also has four more hitters that come in hitting above the .300 mark for a team that is hitting .308 as a unit. The Golden Falcons pitching staff has allowed opponents to hit an identical .308 against them and has pitched to a 4.95 ERA. Riley Williams leads the team in nearly every statistical category in the circle and has thrown six complete games in eight starts on the season. Alexis De La Cruz and Mikayla Brown have combined to start seven games as well and Brown leads the team with a 3.82 ERA.
