GAMEDAY: SOFTBALL OPENS CONFERENCE PLAY WITH DOUBLEHEADER AGAINST MOLLOY

3/21/2023 8:00:00 AM

Rockville Centre, NY - The College of Staten Island Softball Team opens the conference portion of their schedule this afternoon as they take on the Molloy University Lions.  The Dolphins enter today's games 4-12 on the season and Molloy comes in with a 9-7 record.  There is extensive history between the two sides as Molloy leads the all-time series 14-5.  Since CSI became a Division II program, Molloy has won four of the six meetings between the two teams.  However, the Dolphins won the final two meetings last season.

The Dolphins were last in action against Felician University on Sunday for their home opener.  After Felician scored four unanswered runs to take the 6-2 win in game one, they pulled away early for a decisive game two win by a final score of 12-3.  Molloy also last played on Sunday and took both games of a doubleheader against Thomas Jefferson University.

Anissa Acosta and Mariah Carcano come in as the two hottest CSI hitters following a week of consistent offensive production.  Carcano hit safely in all six games that the Dolphins played and Acosta has homered three times in the last four games.  Aileen Balderas and Alyssa Acosta also continued to produce at the plate as both maintain an average above the .300 mark.  In the circle, it was a solid rebound effort for Alexis Miramontes on Sunday as she allowed just two earned runs in five innings against the Golden Falcons.

Two Lions come into the game batting above the .300 mark with at least 25 at bats.  Their leading hitter among qualifiers is Karsyn Eaton with a .362 batting average followed by Chrissie Huhn at .308.  Emily McGurk and Akemi Poyer are both off to equally strong starts at the plate in a much smaller sample size.  The Molloy pitching staff has been thoroughly impressive thus far as well.  Brianna Macias and Amanda King, their top two starting pitchers, both come in with an ERA below 2.10, and Matalie Mousa comes in with a respectable 4.34 ERA.  They will look to shut down a CSI lineup that hasn't scored more than three runs in each of their last three games.
