GAMEDAY: SOFTBALL CONTINUES BUSY WEEK WITH DOUBLEHEADER AGAINST AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL COLLEGE

3/22/2023 8:00:00 AM

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Softball Team continues a stretch of five doubleheaders in eight days this afternoon as they return home for a non-conference double header against American International College.  The Dolphins are now 4-14 on the season and will be looking to snap a seven-game losing skid.  The Yellow Jackets are 2-10 on the season with all twelve of their games being played at The Spring Games in Florida.  Today will be the first time AIC has been in action since Friday and they will be looking to snap a four-game losing streak.  Today's meeting between the two teams is the first in the history of the two programs.

The Dolphins last played less than 24 hours ago in their first conference action of the season against Molloy University.  Game one saw only one run scored as the Lions defeated CSI 1-0.  The Dolphins then surrendered 15 runs in a game two loss as they were swept by their conference rival.  On their final day at The Spring Games last week, AIC lost to Indiana University of Pennsylvania and Post University.

Anissa Acosta owns a share of the ECC lead in RBI's with seventeen following yesterday's doubleheader against the Lions and Mariah Carcano added two more hits to her team-leading total.  Alyssa Acosta, CSI's second-leading hitter, had three hits against the Lions in the two games yesterday.  Alexis Miramontes also pitched well for the Dolphins against Molloy and has now allowed two earned runs or less in each of her last two starts.  However, the CSI offense has scored three runs or fewer in the team's last five games after scoring five runs or more in three straight games.

Three Yellow Jackets are hitting above the .300 mark on the season led by Brianna Harzula's .348 batting average.  Mackenzie Berman comes in hitting .333 and Alexis Jimenez is not far behind her with a .323 batting average.  Despite the strong start for their three leading hitters, AIC has just a .243 team batting average on the season.  In the circle, the Yellow Jackets come in with a 3.53 team ERA, but opponents have pitched to a 1.85 ERA against them.  Isabella Erti leads the team in innings-pitched and comes in with an ERA of 3.11.  Jimenez has been as effective in the circle as she has been at the plate and has allowed just one earned run in 14 innings.  The AIC pitching staff will face a Dolphins team that comes in hitting an even .250 as a unit and is in search of a spark at the plate.
