GAMEDAY: SOFTBALL HOSTS D'YOUVILLE IN RARE EARLY-MORNING DOUBLEHEADER

3/27/2023 5:00:00 AM

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Softball Team continues conference play this morning with a rare 10 AM doubleheader against D'Youville University.  The pair of games, which was originally scheduled for Saturday, was moved multiple times to avoid incoming inclement weather.  The Dolphins are 6-14 on the season and are off to an 0-2 start against the East Coast Conference.  The Saints are 7-15 on the year and 1-1 in conference play.

The Dolphins last played on Wednesday against American International College when they picked up a pair of thrilling one-run victories.  After winning game one 4-3 to earn Head Coach Tracey Garofalo her 300th career win, the Dolphins came from eight runs down to win game two, 9-8.  The Saints last played on Sunday and earned a split of their doubleheader against Queens.

The same three Dolphins have led the team in hitting for much of the season as Mariah Carcano, Alyssa Acosta and Aileen Balderas are all batting above the .300 mark through CSI's first 20 games.  However, no Dolphin has been better than Anissa Acosta in RBI spots as she had driven in 19 runs on the season.  Alexis Miramontes has been CSI's best pitcher this year and delivered another quality outing against the Yellow Jackets last week.  Out of the bullpen, Alexandra Frenza also pitched very well on Wednesday and provided the Dolphins with much-needed innings of relief in both games.

Four players come in hitting above the .300 mark for D'Youville led by Lauren Booth who is batting .362 on the year.  Gianna Adamo is not far behind hitting at .357 and is the team-leader in hits with 25.  Second in hits with 20 is Mikayla Bush who comes in hitting .317.  Rounding out the top four hitters for the Saints is Hannah Bardeen who is hitting .305 entering today's games with a team-best .475 on-base percentage.  In the circle, D'Youville enters action with a 4.84 team ERA led by Sarah Parzych with a 3.48 earned run average.  The Saints pitching staff will be tasked with slowing down a Dolphins lineup that raised their team batting average to .261 following their nine-run effort against AIC on Wednesday.
