GAMEDAY: SOFTBALL BACK ON THE ROAD FOR NON-CONFERENCE MATCHUP WITH ADELPHI

4/12/2023 8:00:00 AM

Garden City, NY - The College of Staten Island Softball Team plays for the second consecutive day this afternoon as they hit the road for a non-conference doubleheader against Adelphi University.  The Dolphins enter today's games 11-25 on the season and Adelphi comes in with a record of 25-6.  Today will be the first time the two teams have met in the history of the programs.

The Dolphins played yesterday in a conference doubleheader against Molloy University and were swept by the Lions for the second time this season.  Following a lopsided defeat in the game one, the Dolphins could not protect a three-run first-inning lead in game two as they fell to the Lions 5-4.  The Panthers faced one of CSI's recent opponents last time out when they took on the University of New Haven less than 24 hours ago.  It was a sweep in that doubleheader for the Panther as they improved to 9-3 against the NE-10.

It was a five-hit day for Anissa Acosta in the two games against the Lions yesterday and Aileen Balderas dealt the biggest blow with a three-run homer.  Rianne Mayer, Amelia Funston, Acosta, and Balderas all registered multiple-hit games for the Dolphins in game two, but that wasn't enough to secure a Dolphins victory.  In the circle, the Dolphins used two pitchers in each game.  Alexis Miramontes and Kelsey Strayer combined to allow 12 runs in game one.  In game two, Alexandra Frenza and Anissa Acosta allowed five runs.

The Panthers are led in hitting by Jordan Pasqueralli who comes in hitting .412 on the season.  She is one of six Panthers with at least 45 at-bats hitting above the .300 mark on the season, and Adelphi enters today's games hitting .307 as a team.  In the circle, Lindsey Hibbs has been nearly untouchable this season.  She comes in with a 0.63 ERA, has allowed just 11 earned runs in 122.2 innings, and opponents are hitting just .130 against her.  The rest of the Adelphi pitching staff has also pitched very well this year and the Panthers come with a 1.37 team ERA.
