GAMEDAY: SOFTBALL WRAPS UP 2023 SEASON WITH DOUBLEHEADER AGAINST MERCY

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Softball Team will wrap up the 2023 season today as they take on the Mercy College Mavericks at the CSI Softball Complex.  The Dolphins enter today's games 11-35 and 3-15 against the East Coast Conference.  The enter today's games 13-29 overall and 8-10 against the conference.  The Dolphins split two games against the Mavericks earlier this season but were officially eliminated from playoff contention on Sunday with a loss to the Spartans.

The Dolphins were last in action on Sunday when they dropped a pair of game against Saint Thomas Aquinas College.  The loss in the first of those two games eliminated the Dolphins from playoff contention and CSI scored just once in the two games.  The Mavericks also last played on Sunday and split a conference doubleheader against D'Youville.

The Dolphins are led in hitting by Anissa and Alyssa Acosta followed closely by Victoria WhalenAnissa Acosta has been red-hot at the plate for the last couple of weeks and remains among the conference leaders in RBI.  Alexandra Frenza has logged the most innings for the Dolphins this season and leads them in many pitching categories.  However, she has contended with command issues this season and has ran into trouble when she has issued walks.  If Frenza was to appear in a game today, she could surpass 100 innings on the season.

Cayla Crawford has been one of the best hitters in the ECC this season with a .463 batting average.  She also comes in with an 1.178 OPS and a .657 on-base percentage, both of which lead the Mavericks.  Crawford is one of four Mavericks hitting above the .300 mark for a team that is hitting .269 on the season.  In the circle, the Mavericks have pitched to an ERA just above 5.00 led by Alexi Benson's 3.65 ERA.  Benson and Angelina Oquendo have accounted the starts in 36 of the team's 42 games and 11 of the team's 13 wins.
