GAMEDAY: SOFTBALL RETURNS HOME FOR MATCHUP WITH GOLDEY-BEACOM

4/7/2023 6:00:00 AM

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Softball Team returns home this afternoon as they continue non-conference play with a doubleheader against the Goldey-Beacom College Lightning.  The Dolphins enter today's games with a record of 10-22 on the season and the Lightning come in 23-17 on the year.  Today's games will be the first time the two teams have faced one another in the history of the programs.

The Dolphins concluded a stretch of three doubleheaders in three days on Wednesday against the University of New Haven.  The Dolphins held a one-run lead in both games, but the Chargers were able to come from behind twice to earn a sweep of the Dolphins.  The Lightning will be playing for the second straight day following a pair of close losses to Wilmington in conference play yesterday.

Mariah Carcano and Alyssa Acosta are both hitting well above .300 on the season for the Dolphins and the team comes in hitting .259 as a unit.  As the Dolphins progressed through their recent stretch of six games in three days, the bats became progressively quieter.  During those six contests, the Dolphins scored more than four runs just once.  In the circle, the Dolphins were forced to dig deeper into their pitching depth as the week progressed.  Four different Dolphins got a start during the six-game stretch, but it was Alexandra Frenza who earned both CSI wins.

The Lightning have seven hitters with a qualifying number of plate appearances that are hitting well above .300 on the season and they come in hitting .316 as a team.  Once the Goldey-Beacom hitters have gotten on base, they have been very efficient stealing bases and have done so often.  The Lightning come in 89-98 on stolen base attempts for the year and four different players have stolen at least nine bases.  The team also has 58 doubles and 17 triples in their 40 games played thus far helping them to an average of just over five runs per game.  In the circle, each of their top two starters has pitched very well this season led by ace Alesia Doctor.  Doctor has eight wins on the season and comes in with a 1.58 ERA to lead the Lightning in both of those categories.  She and Morgan McLane have combined for 15 complete games and have led Goldey-Beacom to a 3.01 team ERA.
