GAMEDAY: SOFTBALL BEGINS FINAL WEEK OF REGULAR SEASON AGAINST MERCY WITH FULL CONTROL OVER PLAYOFF DESTINY

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Softball Team begins the final week of the regular season with full control over their playoff destiny as they take on the Mercy University Mavericks at the CSI Softball Complex. The Dolphins are 18-18 on the year and 6-10 in conference play with four games remaining on their schedule. The Mavericks enter the day also enter the day 18-18 overall and are 8-6 against the ECC. The Dolphins were last in action on Senior Day this past Saturday when they split their doubleheader with Molloy. The Mavericks faced the Lions yesterday and swept that doubleheader, 2-0 and 4-3. With that pair of wins, Mercy can clinch a playoff spot with a win of just one of today's games. A Mavericks victory in either game would secure them a tiebreaker against the Dolphins, and it would also ensure that they would emerge with a playoff spot coming out of any three-way tiebreaker scenario with CSI and D'Youville. For the Dolphins, only a sweep of today's doubleheader improves their playoff chances. A sweep against the Mavericks today would require them to win just one game against D'Youville on Saturday to clinch a playoff spot. However, if the Dolphins lose either game against the Mavericks today, they will need to beat D'Youville twice on Saturday to reach the postseason. There is no scenario where CSI can win a tiebreaker with the Mavericks. This forces the Dolphins to either win three of their last four games or to sweep D'Youville on Saturday to reach the postseason.
