GAME DAY: SOFTBALL HOSTS HOME OPENER AGAINST CHESTNUT HILL

3/10/2026 10:00:00 AM

STATEN ISLAND, NY – The College of Staten Island softball team will host its home opener against Chestnut Hill University on Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 PM. The Dolphins will take the field at the newly renovated CSI Softball Complex, marking the first NCAA competition on the program's new turf surface during the 2026 season.

Series History – Dolphins on Four-Game Win Streak
The Dolphins and Griffins first met in 2022 in Auburndale, FL and have faced each other regularly since. Across seven all-time meetings, CSI holds a 6-1 advantage in the series and enters Tuesday's contest riding a four-game win streak against Chestnut Hill.

Last season, the Dolphins traveled to face the Griffins and secured a doubleheader sweep, winning game one 5-0 before claiming a 10-2 mercy-rule victory in game two. In the opener, both teams were held scoreless through the first two innings before CSI broke through in the third inning. That run sparked the Dolphins' offense, which added four more runs the rest of the way while the pitching staff kept the Griffins off the board for the shutout win.

In game two, Chestnut Hill struck first, but the Dolphins responded quickly. CSI plated five runs in the bottom of the second inning to take a 5-1 lead and never looked back. The Dolphins added five more runs while limiting the Griffins to just one additional score, securing the 10-2 victory in six innings.

Record Comparison
Chestnut Hill enters the matchup having played eight games to start the season, posting a 4-4 record. Their wins have come against Bay Path University, Waynesburg University, Fayetteville State University, and Shaw University.

The Dolphins have played four games so far and hold a 1-3 record, with their lone victory coming against Virginia Union on March 1.

Individual Leaders
Aliveah Warner leads the Dolphins with a .400 batting average, collecting four hits, including three doubles, along with two RBI. Her performance earned East Coast Conference (ECC) Honorable Mention recognition last week.
Taryn Judson also received ECC Honorable Mention after hitting .333 while recording her first collegiate home run, and the Dolphins' first of the season, against Clarion on March 1. Madilyn Paul is also batting .333 with two hits, while Jianna Lopez is hitting .300 with three hits and leads the team with three runs scored.

In the circle, Marena Grenier leads the Dolphins with a 4.61 ERA across 13.2 innings pitched and has recorded 12 strikeouts.

For the Griffins, two hitters are batting .400 or better to start the season, including the team's top hitter at .461 with six hits in six games. Another batter is hitting .400 with six hits, five runs scored, and two triples. In the circle, Chestnut Hill's top pitcher owns a 1.17 ERA with a 2-0 record and eight strikeouts, while another pitcher leads the staff with nine strikeouts and holds a 4.54 ERA with a 2-1 record.
