FLUSHING, NY – The College of Staten Island men's soccer team continues East Coast Conference (ECC) play Wednesday evening under the lights at No. 16 Queens College in Flushing, NY. The Dolphins are currently riding a seven-game losing streak against the Knights and are looking for their first win over Queens since the 1985 season.
2025 Meeting Recap:
The Dolphins and Knights met at Dolphins Soccer Park in 2025, where CSI held a 1-0 lead after the opening 45 minutes. Peterson Larose recorded back-to-back shots, with his first attempt being blocked. Larose stayed with the play, however, and found his way toward goal to give the Dolphins a 1-0 lead on Senior Day. CSI and Queens continued to battle offensively throughout the contest, with the Dolphins holding a 14-13 advantage in shots. Despite the offensive pressure, the Knights scored twice in the second half to hand the Dolphins a 2-1 defeat.
2026 Dolphins Statistics Overview:
The Dolphins opened conference play Saturday against D'Youville, with the contest ending in a scoreless draw. CSI currently holds a 2-3-1 overall record and a 0-0-1 mark in conference play.
Yair Roman, who received an honorable mention from the ECC following a career-best outing last week, leads the Dolphins with three goals and six points. He is followed by Deniz Karcher, who has five points on two goals and one assist. The Dolphins' offense has featured contributions from throughout the lineup, with eight different players recording at least one goal this season. Additionally, seven players have registered at least one assist.
Carlos Romero Astacio has been a mainstay in recent contests for the Dolphins. He earned his first-ever ECC Goalkeeper of the Week honor following a 1-0-1 week last week and currently leads the team's goalkeepers with 20 saves. He ranks second in the conference in saves and fourth with a 0.76 goals-against average.
2026 Knights Statistics Overview:
The Knights opened conference play Saturday afternoon in a rematch of the 2025 ECC Championship against Roberts Wesleyan. Queens posted a 3-0 shutout victory to begin conference play with a 1-0 record.
The Knights feature two players who have recorded 11 points through eight games this season. One has tallied three goals and five assists, while the other has four goals and three assists. Much like the Dolphins, Queens has received offensive contributions from throughout its lineup, with nine different players recording at least one goal this season. Queens' primary goalkeeper has appeared in five games and owns a 5-0 record, making 13 saves on 46 shots faced.
Overall Meeting Review:
CSI and Queens were both members of the CUNYAC during their Division III years, with the teams first meeting in the 1970s and 1980s. Since the Dolphins entered the Division II era, however, CSI has not recorded a victory over the Knights.The Dolphins are looking to end that streak Wednesday after falling to Queens, 2-1, last season. CSI's last win over the Knights came during the 1985 season, when the Dolphins defeated Queens, 2-1, at home. Since then, the Knights have won seven consecutive meetings and currently hold a 9-7 advantage in the all-time series.
