MORAVIAN ZIPS CSI IN SOFTBALL DOUBLEHEADER

CSI's Stefanie Solari had one of only three hits for CSI on the afternoon
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The College of Staten Island women's softball team finally got their first doubleheader of the season in, but the Dolphins were blanked in a pair of 8-0 non-conference games to No. 20 Moravian College in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, this afternoon.  CSI fell to a season opening 0-3 record, while Moravian lifted its overall mark to 11-3.

Strong offensive starts and terrific pitching was the key for Moravian, who opened Game One with a five-run first inning that set the tone for the entire afternoon.  Jenn Dalickas' RBI-double was one of four RBI hits in the inning and the second double in the inning allowed by CSI starter Victoria Procopio, who fell to 0-2 this season.  The five-run barrage was more than enough for MC starter Lindsey Sullivan, who tossed a perfect complete game through five innings, not allowing a single baserunner.  A two-run double by Cassie Ernst sparked a three-run fourth inning for MC, which took an 8-0 lead and was able to close the game out after five innings.

Held without a hit in the opener, the Dolphins got two in the first inning of the second game, but stranded both runners.  Getting her first start of the season, CSI hurler Stefanie Solari pitched a scoreless first inning as well, but again the Moravian bats came alive to the tune of a four-run second inning.  Four straight RBI singles did the trick for the Greyhounds, aided along by a CSI error.

A Leann Ventriglia RBI single in the third inning then opened up a 6-0 Moravian lead.  One inning later, CSI got its first extra-base hit of the game, a double by Christina Tufano, but Tufano would fail to come around in the fourth.  In the next frame, after Moravian starter Elizabeth Tillou got CSI out in order, the Greyhounds'' Lizzie Mack roped a two-RBI double, making the score 8-0 and ending the game via the mercy rule with two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Amidst the backdrop of tough weather ahead, CSI is scheduled to travel to Farmingdale State tomorrow afternoon at 3:30pm for another non-conference doubleheader.
