Box Score 2 The College of Staten Island women's softball squad ran their win streak up to five games and won another pair of games via a shutout, taking two against Lehman College in a CUNYAC doubleheader played this evening in the Bronx, NY. CSI won the opener, 15-0, on a no-hitter tossed by
Jacqueline Cautela, followed by a 10-0 win in the nightcap. CSI ran their record up to 17-5 overall and 7-1 within the CUNYAC, while Lehman fell to 7-8, 3-7, respectively.
In the opener, the Dolphins' ace pitcher was lights-out, as Cautela breezed through five innings of no-hit softball, aided with plenty of run support.
Maxine Jasko clocked in a two-run double in the first to get CSI started, and CSI added six more runs in the second, highlighted by a two-run homerun by Cautela, and RBI doubles by
Samantha Bowbliss and
Nicolette Trapani.
The Dolphins added another six-spot in the third inning helped along by a pair of Lehman errors. It was all more than enough for Cautela, who struck out 11 and allowed just a single base runner via a walk.
In the second game, CSI nursed a smaller lead until they erupted for five runs in the seventh inning to take a 10-0 win. The Dolphins made it 1-0 in the first as
Brittany Smith came in to score on a
Maxine Jasko hit. In the second, CSI added three more on three separate hits in the second, and Smith scored her third run of the game on a
Christina Tufano sac fly in the third to make it 5-0.
That was enough for CSI pitcher
Nicolette Trapani, who worked quickly and allowed only a pair of hits in the contest. Trapani struck out 10 batters, and has pitched 12 straight scoreless innings, striking out 24 batters in that stretch. Helped along by four Lehman errors in the seventh inning, CSI also scattered six hits in the five-run inning, leading to the final result.
CSI outhit Lehman in game two, 16-2. Smith led the way going 4-4 with four runs scored, an RBI, and two stolen bases.
The Dolphins return to action on Wednesday, when they host Kean University at the CSI Softball Complex for a doubleheader, beginning at 4pm.
