MARK BIANCOVISO TAKES THE HELM AS CSI SOFTBALL'S TENTH HEAD COACH

1/16/2026 12:08:00 PM

STATEN ISLAND, NY – The College of Staten Island Department of Athletics announced on Friday the hiring of Mark Biancoviso as the new head coach of the CSI softball program. Biancoviso becomes the 10th head coach in program history, spanning both the Division III and Division II eras, and will lead the Dolphins beginning with the 2026 season.

"I'd like to thank Matt Scally and the Athletic Department for this wonderful opportunity," Biancoviso said. "Being given the chance to coach at the school I attended and in my neighborhood is exciting and humbling. I look forward to building the relationship with the community and helping our student-athletes achieve both on and off the field."

Biancoviso brings more than a decade of coaching experience at the youth, high school, and collegiate showcase levels. He began his coaching career in 2009 at the West Shore Little League before quickly advancing through the ranks. In 2012, he became Vice President and Head Coach of the Staten Island Saints Fastpitch Softball Organization, where he helped develop the program into a competitive force.

Later in 2017, Biancoviso played a pivotal role in establishing the softball program at Xaverian High School following the school's transition to a co-ed institution. The junior varsity program began in the same year of 2017, followed by a varsity squad in 2018. Under his leadership, the Clippers achieved sustained success at the local, state, and national levels. Despite being a program less than a decade old, Xaverian and Biancoviso compiled an impressive 125–38 overall record, earning six division championships and five Brooklyn/Queens finalist appearances.

Across his time with the Staten Island Saints and Xaverian High School, Biancoviso has helped more than 75 student-athletes advance to the collegiate level, emphasizing player development both on and off the field.

"I believe with the experienced staff we have assembled and hard work, the sky's the limit for the program," Biancoviso stated.

He will be supported by an experienced assistant coaching staff that includes Michael Kaffl, Alyssa Polemeni, Tom RenoGianna DeCesare, and Robert Santiago

"I am excited to welcome Mark to CSI," said CSI Athletic Director Matt Scally. "His passion, commitment and vision are exactly what our softball program needs to elevate us to new heights. His experience in building programs and developing student-athletes made him the right person to lead the Dolphins."

Biancoviso and the Dolphins will open their 2026 campaign on Saturday, Feb. 21, hosting Chestnut Hill College at CSI's brand-new softball complex for a doubleheader beginning at 12:00 PM.
